Accessibility Statement
We want every patient and visitor to be able to use this website, book a visit and reach us. If anything here is hard to use, tell us and we will help.
Our commitment
Big City Dental is committed to making bigcitydental.com accessible to people with disabilities, including visitors who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, voice control or other assistive technology. Accessibility is part of how the site is designed, built and maintained.
Standard we work to
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1at Level AA, and we apply the additional Level AA criteria in WCAG 2.2 where they fit this site. WCAG is the standard the U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services refer to for web accessibility.
The site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA: the pages we build and control are designed to conform in full, and the exceptions we know about are listed below. They involve services provided by other companies.
What we have done
- Every page works with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to main content” link appears as the first Tab stop, and the element with focus is always visibly outlined.
- Pages use proper headings, landmarks and lists so screen readers can move through them quickly.
- Photos have written descriptions; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Text and background colours meet the WCAG contrast minimum (4.5 to 1 for normal text).
- Text can be enlarged to at least 200% in the browser, and pages reflow on small screens without sideways scrolling.
- Form fields have visible labels, required fields are marked, and errors are announced.
- Animation is reduced automatically when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Every page is checked with automated accessibility testing (axe-core) and keyboard testing before it is published.
Accessibility options on this site
The round button in the bottom-left corner of every page opens Accessibility options. There you can make text larger, switch to a plainer font, turn on high contrast, highlight links, add spacing between lines and words, or pause motion. Your choices are saved on your device and apply to every page until you reset them. These options are a convenience: the site is built to work without them, and with your browser's own zoom, reader view and assistive technology.
Known limitations
Some parts of the site come from other companies, and we cannot change how they work:
- Map. The map on our pages is provided by Google Maps. Our address, 3712 N Southport Ave, Chicago, IL 60613, and a link to directions are also given as text.
- Online booking for returning patients runs on our practice software provider's patient portal. If it is difficult to use, call us and we will book the visit for you.
- Payments. The Pay Now page uses a Zelle QR code and Zelle's own enrollment page. You can also send a Zelle payment to our email address, or call us for a secure payment link.
If you find anything else on the site that does not work for you, please tell us. We will fix what we can and offer another way to get the same information or service.

How this site is built and tested
bigcitydental.com uses HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WAI-ARIA, and is designed to work with current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge and with screen readers such as VoiceOver, NVDA and JAWS. Accessibility is checked by self-evaluation: automated testing with axe-core on every page at desktop and phone sizes, plus manual keyboard testing. We review this statement whenever the site changes substantially.
